[ Leader introduces segment, reviews some of what the children have heard in church? While she does this, S is heard (still in bin) snuffling/sobbing away... A child is selected to knock on bin. ]

STINKY: Who is it?

Kids: Come out Stinky!

[ S comes out blowing nose, holding box of tissues, Gives this to leader. ]

STINKY: Oh! It's the little monkeys! I better say hello - hello little monkeys!

Kids: Hello Stinky... (Stinky cries)

LEADER: Stinky. Are you OK?

STINKY: Oh... Ahh... Karyn, I'm very sad.

LEADER: Oh Stinky, why are you sad today?

STINKY: It is very sad that Jesus died on the cross.

[ Leader offers tissue. S wipes eyes, blows nose, wipes his face with the tissue, or smears it on the leader. ]

LEADER: Yes Stinky, it is sad that people hated Jesus so much they wanted to kill him. It's sad that his friends ran away and left him. And it's very sad that Jesus died on the cross.

STINKY: Oh... Oh... Yes I am sad that people treated Jesus so badly.

[ S and leader are just quiet, and reflective. ]

STINKY: Karyn. On Good Friday we remember that Jesus died on the cross, right?

LEADER: Yes Stinky, that's right.

STINKY: Well Karyn, there's something I don't understand. Why do we call this day GOOD Friday if we're remembering something so bad and sad.

LEADER: Now that's a GREAT question Stinky. Does anyone know why we call today GOOD Friday? (kids answer).

STINKY: (Karyn, do you know why we call it Good Friday?)

LEADER: On Good Friday, we are remembering the Good news that Jesus died on the cross so we could be friends with God. It is GOOD that we can be God's friends.

STINKY: Yes, that is good news.

LEADER: Let's see what the Bible says about this, let's get Robbie the Robot to find it for us...

[Slide: 1 Timothy 1:15, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners."\ Leader asks child to read.]

STINKY: 'Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.' Karyn, who are the sinners that Jesus came to save?

LEADER: What do you think kids?... The Bible says we've all sinned. We've done things that God doesn't like. Sometimes we ignore God. Sometimes we think we're more important than God. Those things are called sin. That means we're all sinners.

STINKY: But Karyn, that doesn't sound very GOOD either.

LEADER: You're right Stinky, sin is not good. It's a big problem. But that's what makes today so GOOD.

STINKY: (Stinky thinks) So Good Friday is GOOD because Jesus saves us from the big problem of sin.

LEADER: Yes Stinky. Because Jesus died, we can now be God's friends. Don't you think that's GREAT! Stinky, do you like songs?

STINKY: Yes, I DO.

LEADER: Our special friend Ben, is here to teach us a song to help us remember that Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Would you like to learn Ben's new song?

STINKY: Oh YES Please!

LEADER: Kids, will you help Stinky to learn Ben's new song?

SONG (Marty and Ben ad lib re. resurrection -- from song)

STINKY: So Karyn. Do you think I should be sad on Good Friday?

LEADER: Well Stinky, we are remembering that sad things happened on Good Friday. But I think you should be glad because Jesus died for you. And that's the special thing you should remember today.

[ Slide: Remember this: "Be GLAD because Jesus died for you." ]

[ Leader asks child to read it, then asks S to say it but he gets it wrong (e.g. "I'm mad because I need a tissue"), then all kids say it together. ]

STINKY: Oh, that's great. Thankyou every one for helping me to be GLAD because Jesus died for me. I will love to remember our song. I better go now -- And I hope you all have a GOOD Friday. See you later little monkeys!

[ Exit (singing Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners...) ]
