[ Introduction: leader picks child to knock on bin, everyone calls 'come out Stinky!', Stinky comes out singing his intro tune ]

STINKY: Hello little monkeys!

LEADER: Hello Stinky! I'm glad you're here, I want you to meet a new friend of mine. [points to friend, friend smiles and waves but remains quiet]

STINKY: Oh! I like making new friends! I want to get to know him...

LEADER: Great, I think you'll like him.

STINKY: What does he like playing?

LEADER: Good question! Let's ask him...

STINKY: [interrupting] Oh, I know! He likes playing with Lego!

LEADER: [surprised] How do you know that Stinky? You haven't met him?

STINKY: Oh, I'm just really, really smart. I just know!

LEADER: [Looks at friend] Hmm... Is Stinky right?

[ [Friend shakes head, thumbs down, indicates 'not even close', smiling to suggest 'this is silly', but without speaking. ]

LEADER: No Stinky, that's not right.

STINKY: Oh, well... what does he like eating?

LEADER: Well, let's ask him!

STINKY: Oh, wait! I can work it out all by myself. He likes lasagne with lizard vomit layers and dead flies sprinkled on top.

LEADER: Really? [looks at friend, shakes head again] No Stinky, you're wrong again.

STINKY: Oh... I'm not doing well am I?

LEADER: No, Stinky. You have no chance of getting to know my friend like this! Kids, what should Stinky do? [Take suggestions, 'listen to what he says']\ Got that Stinky? If you want to get to know someone, you need to listen to them.

Friend: Hi Stinky!

STINKY: Argh! He speaks! He spoke to me!

LEADER: Yes Stinky, let's listen to him.

Friend: It's good to meet you Stinky! I'd love to be your friend. Let me tell you a bit about me. My name is [insert]. I really like cooking and [insert]. My favourite food is [insert]. My favourite sport is [insert]. I have to go now, but I hope we can talk more later. I'd love to be good friends with you. Bye bye!

STINKY: Oh, bye! It's great to get to know you! [turns to leader] Oh... that was easier when he spoke to me and I listened. I couldn't get to know him by just guessing...

LEADER: No Stinky!

STINKY: I've got a question! How can we know God?

LEADER: Good question! What do you think kids?

[ Field ideas ]

LEADER: Thank you. Let's see what the Bible says.

[ Slide: In the past, God spoke to our people through the prophets. He spoke at many times. He spoke in different ways. But in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son... He is the exact likeness of God's being. (Hebrews 1:1-3) ]

LEADER: See Stinky, we can't get to know God without his help. Thankfully, He wants us to know Him, so He has spoken to us.

STINKY: Oh... It's good He wants us to know Him. Otherwise, we wouldn't have a chance!

LEADER: No way. We need Him to speak to us and show us what He's like, and how He'd like us to treat Him.

STINKY: Oh. And how has He spoken to us?

LEADER: Well, a long time ago He had prophets that would speak God's words to His people. But then He sent Jesus, God's living Word. He shows us what God is like.

STINKY: So we can know God because of Jesus?

LEADER: Yes! Let's see our Bible Bite:

[ Slide: Bible Bite: We can know God because He speaks to us. ]

LEADER: "We can know God because He speaks to us".

STINKY: Well, that's really good news because if He hadn't spoken, we couldn't know Him!

LEADER: That's right! Let's say it all together... [lead kids]. OK Stinky, do you think you can say it?

STINKY: Oh... let me try... "I speak to you so you can know about lasagnas with flies"...

LEADER: Oh, Stinky! Kids, let's say it one more time to help Stinky. Stinky you say it with us!

STINKY: Oh, I better go now. Thank you for teaching me that we can know God because he speaks to us -- that's really good news! Bye bye little monkeys!
