[ Introduction: leader picks child to knock on bin, everyone calls 'come out Stinky!', Stinky comes out singing his intro tune ]
STINKY: Hello little monkeys!
LEADER: Hello Stinky! How you are today?
STINKY: Oh, I'm a bit confused. I need your help to solve a mystery.
LEADER: OK, we can help you.
STINKY: Well, yesterday I was at the puppet playground and I saw two other puppets: a green one, and a blue one. I'm trying to work out what they're like, and which would make a good friend.
LEADER: OK, so how can you know them better?
STINKY: I'm not sure! I didn't talk to them, I don't know their names, I just saw them playing!
LEADER: OK, what where they doing? Maybe what they did can show us what they're like.
STINKY: Oh... So we can know them by what they do... Good idea!
LEADER: What was the green puppet doing?
STINKY: Oh. I saw him throw sand at a little girl. She started crying, but the green puppet started laughing!
LEADER: Hmm, green puppet doesn't sound like a good friend.
STINKY: You're right! I don't need to know anything else about him.
LEADER: How about the blue puppet?
STINKY: Well, the blue puppet saw the little girl crying, and he run and stood in front of her, so the sand wouldn't hit her anymore -- even though he got lots of sand on him! Then he gave her a lolly, and helped her feel better.
LEADER: Stinky, he sounds like he would make a great friend!
STINKY: Yes! Even though I don't know much about him, I can tell what he's like by what he did.
LEADER: Well Stinky, mystery solved!
STINKY: Yes!... But wait! I have another mystery. How can we know what God is like?
LEADER: That's a great question. What do you think kids: What has God done that shows us what He\'s like?
[ Field ideas ]
LEADER: Thank you! Well, let's see what the Bible says...
[ Slide (verse): God [sent Jesus to the cross] to prove in our own time that he is fair. He proved that he is right. He also made right with himself those who believe in Jesus. Rom 3:26 ]
LEADER: See? We know God by what He has done, especially at the cross. He showed us he's fair, and he's right.
STINKY: So... if I want to know what God is like, and whether I can trust Him, I should think about what God did at the cross?
LEADER: That's right! God has done lots of good things that tell us what He's like...
STINKY: Like making the world? Giving us life? Saving His people from Egypt? Keeping His promises?
LEADER: Yes! All those things and more. But, the thing God has done which tells us most about him is the cross.
LEADER: Yes! Let's see our Bible Bite:
[ Slide: Bible Bite: The cross shows us what God is like ]
LEADER: Stinky, do you think you can say our Bible Bite?
STINKY: Errh... 'The playground shows us the sand is green'!
LEADER: Oh, Stinky! Let's say it all together one more time, you too Stinky!
[ The cross shows us what God is like ]
STINKY: Oh, thank you for teaching me how we can know God. I better go now. Bye bye little monkeys!
