Passage Romans 1:18-20
Passage Text 18God shows his anger from heaven. It is against all the godless and evil things people do. They are so evil that they say no to the truth. ^19 ^The truth about God is plain to them. God has made it plain.
^20 ^Ever since the world was created it has been possible to see the qualities of God that are not seen. I'm talking about his eternal power and about the fact that he is God. Those things can be seen in what he has made. So people have no excuse for what they do.

Key Points It is sinful, stupid, silly to ignore God. We have no excuse.
God is invisible, yet we can see his existence and power plainly in creation, because He has made it plain.
We suppress the truth, and turn to idolatry. Images that we make, rather than worshiping the maker Himself. A horrible exchange.

[ Introduction: leader picks child to knock on bin, everyone calls 'come out Stinky!', Stinky comes out singing his intro tune ] [ Stinky comes out wearing sunnies, looks at the wrong direction. ]

STINKY: Hello little monkeys!

LEADER: Hello Stinky! Umm, I'm over here Stinky...

STINKY: Oh -- yeah, I know. Hi!

LEADER: Stinky, I like your sunnies. But are you sure you can see through them?

STINKY: Oh, of course!

LEADER: OK, well Stinky, I want to introduce you to another friend! Her name is Maggie. She's right here!

Maggie: Hi Stinky!

STINKY: [Looks wrong way] Hi there!

LEADER: No Stinky, she's over here -- right next to you. [turns head]

STINKY: Oh... ehm... Hi, I like your moustache.

LEADER: She doesn't have a moustache!

STINKY: Oh. Actually, this is too tricky. I've got an idea -- back soon! [Goes down, sings along, comes back up with drawing] Now that's better. This is Maggie. [Looking at drawing] Hello Maggie! "Hi Stinky, it's great to be your friend. You're so funny. You're a rockstart!" Oh, thank you, thank you!

LEADER: [Taking drawing] Stinky, that's not Maggie, that's just a drawing you made! It doesn't even look like Maggie.

STINKY: Oh, but ... but...

LEADER: Stinky, you're being silly. You're pretending you can't see my friend because you've got those sunnies on, but she's right here next to you. Actually, you're being rude to my friend! I think she's starting to get angry, and I don't blame her. We should take those sunnies off... [takes off carefully]

STINKY: Ooh! About time someone turned the lights on! Hey! Who's that?

LEADER: That, Stinky, is Maggie. I've been trying to introduce her to you!

STINKY: Oh... I have been silly and rude. I'm sorry Maggie! It is good to meet you. Thank you for being patient with me and still talking to me. That's really kind!

Maggie: That's OK Stinky, I'm glad you decided to stop pretending. It's good to meet you. Bye! [Exits]

STINKY: Bye! Mr Nathan, you know, looking at these sunnies makes me think of a question: Can we see God?

LEADER: Well Stinky, God is not like us. But we can see He's real and powerful by looking at His creation. Let's look at the Bible:

[Slide (verse): God shows his anger from heaven. It is against all the godless and evil things people do. They are so evil that they say no to the truth. The truth about God is plain to them. God has made it plain.^ ^Ever since the world was created it has been possible to see the qualities of God that are not seen. I'm talking about his eternal power and about the fact that he is God. Those things can be seen in what he has made. So people have no excuse for what they do.\ Romans 1:18-20]

LEADER: [Read passage] Look Stinky. The Bible says the truth about God is plain, it's all around us if we look at the world.

STINKY: Oh, so that sounds easy then -- no problem!

LEADER: Well, there is a problem. We say no to the truth, and pretend it's not there.

STINKY: Whoa! What does God think about that?

LEADER: Well, He's angry. And that's fair, because it's very rude to pretend He's not there, so we don't have any excuse. Let's see our Bible Bite:

[Slide: Bible Bite: Creation shows us God is real, but we pretend He isn\'t.\ [ Read with kids] ]

LEADER: Stinky, do you think you can say it?

STINKY: Oh... My sunnies show I'm a rock star, but I'm pretending really.

LEADER: Oh, Stinky! Let's read it again kids. [read again]

STINKY: Thank you for helping me, but - Ouchy! That's not a happy Bible Bite...

LEADER: No Stinky, it's sad and it's wrong. But we know God didn't stop at that -- He was kind. Jesus came to show us what God is like, and for taking the punishment we deserve for ignoring God.

STINKY: Wow! Well, I better go now, I need to clean my sunnies. Bye bye little monkeys!
