[ Introduction: leader picks child to knock on bin, everyone calls 'come out Stinky!', Stinky comes out singing his intro tune ]
STINKY: Hello little monkeys!
LEADER: Hello Stinky! I'm so glad you're here, because I want to introduce you to some of my friends.
STINKY: Oh, I like friends!
LEADER: Yes, I want you to get to know them. Ready?
STINKY: Yes, please!
LEADER: Well, first it's Debbie. Hi Debbie!
[ Very quietly and gently ] Hi Stinky, it's really nice to meet you.
STINKY: Hi Debbie. How are you?
[ Very quietly and gently ] I'm well thank you. Bye for now.
STINKY: What is Debbie like?
LEADER: Well, she spoke in a quiet and gentle way. Does that give you a clue?
STINKY: Oh yes! I think she's a quiet and gentle person. The way she spoke showed me what she's like!
LEADER: Yes, you are right! OK Stinky, now it's time for my other friend: Lily!
[ Loud, full of energy ] Hey Stinky!! How are you going!
STINKY: Wow! Hello, it's good to meet you!
[ Still loud ] Great to meet you too! Catch you later!! Woo hoo!!
STINKY: Bye! Whoa, Lily sounds like a loud person full of energy. Is that right?
LEADER: Yes! The way she spoke shows you what she's like!
STINKY: Oh, OK, I have a big question now. You taught me that God has spoken to us in the Bible. How has he spoken to us?
LEADER: Well, The way God speaks to us is a lot like the way he saves us. Now, think about how God saves us. What can you remember?
STINKY: Well... It depends on God and His goodness, not on our goodness. We can't save ourselves.
LEADER: Yes! In the same way, we depend on God's goodness to speak to us. We can't make him talk. What else?
STINKY: Well... God saved us by becoming a human being just like us -- Jesus!
LEADER: Yes! In the same way, God uses normal human language that we can understand, not a spooky feeling. What else?
STINKY: Well... God used Jesus -- a person just like us - to point us to Him.
LEADER: Yes! In the same way, God uses people as messengers to tell us the good news of how He saves us. What else?
STINKY: Well... He wants us to do something about Jesus.
LEADER: Yes! In the same way, it's not enough to just list more things about God. We need to do something new when we know God. We need to say yes to Jesus as our king. One more?
STINKY: Well... we need to think about what God has done, and we need to trust Him.
LEADER: Yes! In the same way, God wants us to think when we study the Bible, and He wants us to trust the message in the Bible.
STINKY: Phew! That was a lot of thinking.
LEADER: It sure was Stinky, and you did very well. To help us remember what we're learning about how we know God, I've printed out the Bible Bites we've done so far. Here they are... [read and stick on bin one at a time]. Let's see our Bible Bite for today:
[ Slide: Bible Bite: God speaks to us like the way he saves us ]
LEADER: Do you think you can say that Stinky?
STINKY: Eh... Debbie speaks to us like the way Lily jumps around.
LEADER: On, Stinky! Kids, we better help Stinky, let's read it together again... [Read again]
STINKY: Oh thank you for helping me little monkeys! Thank you for teaching me Mr Nathan. I better go now. Bye bye little monkeys!
