[ Introduction: leader picks child to knock on bin, everyone calls 'come out Stinky!', Stinky comes out singing his intro tune ]

STINKY: Hello everybody!

LEADER: Hello Stinky! What have you been up to?

STINKY: Oh, I'm learning to be an eye doctor. Would you like a free eye test?

LEADER: Ah... OK I guess.

STINKY: OK, OK, I will hold up a photo of someone. I want you to tell me who it is. OK?

LEADER: OK, I'm ready.

[ Flashes photo up and down very quickly ]

STINKY: Who was it?

LEADER: Stinky! I couldn't see, that was too quick --

STINKY: Aha! This is a very bad case, but I can help you.

LEADER: [Hesitant] OK Stinky, sure.

STINKY: OK. Look at me, and don't move!

LEADER: OK.

STINKY: OK, here I go... [Throat clearing sounds, then spit on leader's eye/face]

LEADER: [Disgusted, covering her eye] Stinky!

STINKY: Here, have a tissue -- it's free!

LEADER: That's yuck! [Wipes eye]

STINKY: Can you see any better now?

LEADER: No! Where did you learn that?

STINKY: In the Bible, Jesus spit on a blind man, and he could see.

LEADER: I don't think Jesus wants us to go around spitting on people!

STINKY: Oh. But I want to follow Jesus, so I'm copying him ...

LEADER: Hmm. Stinky we need to follow Jesus the way he wants us to follow him.

STINKY: So how do we follow Jesus then?

LEADER: Well, it's important to see Jesus clearly.

STINKY: But how can we see Jesus? Do I need special glasses?

LEADER: Ah, good question Stinky. By 'seeing Jesus', I mean to understand who Jesus is and what he is like. In Mark 8, Jesus talks with his disciples about who he is. Let's read verses 27 to 29:

[ Slide (verse): Mar k8:27-29 ]

LEADER: There were all kinds of opinions about Jesus, but Peter gave the right answer: "You are the Messiah".

STINKY: Messy? I'm pretty messy too.

LEADER: Not 'messy', "Messiah". The forever king that God had promised. But you know, Peter didn't see Jesus fully. When Jesus explained he would suffer and die, Peter didn't like that. But Jesus explained that following him means saying 'no' to sin, putting Jesus first, and not being ashamed of him.

STINKY: So... Jesus is our suffering Messiah, and we follow him by saying no to sin and yes to him.

LEADER: Yes!

STINKY: I'm not sure if I can see Jesus clearly...

LEADER: That's the same for all of us. Our sinful hearts stop us from seeing Jesus clearly. We need to humbly ask God for help. We can't know Jesus without his help, and God loves helping us.

STINKY: So... how long till I see Jesus clearly?

LEADER: We won't see him perfectly until heaven, but little by little, as we follow him, we will see him more clearly.

STINKY: OK, I'm ready for the Bible Bite.

LEADER: Let's read it together:

[ Slide: Bible Bite: Let's see Jesus clearly, so we can follow him. ]

LEADER: OK Stinky, you have a go.

STINKY: Ah... it's not easy for me. "Let's spit on Peter, because he's really messy".

LEADER: Oh Stinky! Kids, let's help Stinky and read it together one more time.

[ Read: Let's see Jesus clearly, so we can follow him. ]

STINKY: Thank you for teaching me how we can see and follow Jesus! And... sorry I spit on you...

LEADER: That's OK Stinky.

STINKY: Oh, I better go now. Bye bye everybody!
