Key Points | Wisdom calls out an invitation to the simple |
The wisdom is free! | |
The response to wisdom's call reveals our own foolishness or wisdom. The warning against rebuking the fool is a dare -- are you so stupid to reject wisdom?
V9 commends those who listen to wisdom as wise!
V10 -- the meat in the sandwich
Ends with a warning against Folly, another woman who calls out, but who steals and leads to death.
So we're left with a choice of who to listen to, wisdom or folly.
Props/Materials | Bag of lollies |
3 boxes or bags, different colours so can reference them by colour.
Preparation | Set up boxes on a table or even the floor; be clear which is the 'correct' box at the end, it might be easier to place lollies from left to right. |
Debrief |
[ Introduction: leader picks child to knock on bin, everyone calls 'come out Stinky!', Stinky comes out singing his intro tune ]
STINKY: Hello Mr Andrew!
LEADER: Hi Stinky! Guess what? I've got a game we can play today...
STINKY: What is it?!
LEADER: Well, see this big bag of lollies? I'm going to hide in one of these boxes. You have to guess which box it's in, and if you choose the right one, we all get to enjoy the lollies after church.
STINKY: That sounds hard!
LEADER: Well, I'll give you three tries.
STINKY: It's still too hard!
LEADER: OK, I'll let the children shout a hint to you. Will you do that kids? [shout, cd even practice to convince Stinky]
STINKY: Oh... Do I have to pay for the help?
LEADER: No Stinky, it's free!
STINKY: OK, I'll have a try if the little monkeys help me -- just shout loud ok!
LEADER: OK Stinky, cover your eyes, here we go... [hides in purple]. OK, ready. Kids, you shout your help to Stinky.
STINKY: OK, I choose.... blue! [ignoring kids' advice]
LEADER: Blue??! Eh... no Stinky, that's not it [opens it]. I don't think you listened to your little helpers. Let's try again. Kids, this time you shout really loud. [hides in blue]. OK, ready. Kids, shout your help to Stinky!
STINKY: OK, I choose purple!!
LEADER: Purple?! No, Stinky! It's not that one. You need to listen to the help the kids are shouting at you. You only have one more try, if you don't get this one right we will all miss out. [hides in white] OK, ready. Kids, this time shout really loud!
STINKY: OK... I choose... I choose.... Hey Mr Andrew, I have a question.
LEADER: What is it Stinky?
STINKY: Does God care about our choices? Does He say anything to help us?
LEADER: Wow, that's a good question. What do you think kids? [invite responses]. Well, let's see what the Bible says...
[Slide:\ Wisdom ... calls out from the highest point of the city... "Leave your childish ways and you will live. Walk in the way that leads to understanding... Through me, you will live a long time. Years will be added to your life. If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you". -- Proverbs 9:3, 6, 11-12]
LEADER: Ah, this is great. This comes from a book of the Bible that teaches us wisdom.
STINKY: What's wisdom?
LEADER: Wisdom is knowing how to live God's way and making good choices. This pleases God and gives us a good, happy life.
STINKY: Whoa, that sounds really good. How much does it cost?
LEADER: Nothing, it's free! God is happy to help us with His wisdom.
STINKY: So it's really helpful, and it's a gift from God... it'd be really silly not to listen to God's wisdom.
LEADER: Yes! And the best way to find God's wisdom is to listen to Jesus.
STINKY: So what's our Bible Bite for today?
LEADER: Let's have a look...
[Slide:\ God gives us wisdom, so we can make good choices.\ (Leader ask child to read, then read together)]
LEADER: OK Stinky, do you think you could say it?
STINKY: Oh, I'm not very good with these, I might need some help... Let me see, "Mr Andrew gives us lollies, so we can shout a lot". Is that right?
LEADER: Oh, Stinky! We better say it again all together again. [repeat]
STINKY: Oh thank you!
LEADER: Stinky, you still haven't picked the box. You heard your little helpers. Which box do you choose?
STINKY: I choose... the white box!
LEADER: Good listening Stinky, and good choice! Here are the lollies!
STINKY: Yes!
LEADER: These will be at the table after church. Enjoy them!
STINKY: OK, I better go now. Thank you for teaching me about wisdom today Mr Andrew! Bye little monkeys!
