[ Introduction: leader picks child to knock on bin, everyone calls 'come out Stinky!', Stinky comes out singing his intro tune ]
Stinky: Hello everybody!
Leader: Hello Stinky. What are you up to?
Stinky: Oh, I'm trying to decide if I should go to a party.
Leader: Oh that sounds fun.
Stinky: I got an invitation, have a look.
Leader: Oh this looks great! It'll be at a great place.
Stinky: Yes.
Leader: There'll be lots of great people!
Stinky: Yes.
Leader: It sounds very promising! So what's there to think about?
Stinky: I'd have to leave behind staying home in my comfy bin...
Leader: That doesn't sound as good as this party.
Stinky: Yeah, but the invite is making some big promises. It feels too good to be true. What if they don't turn out?
Leader: Who is inviting you to this party?
Stinky: My friend Pungent.
Leader: What is Pungent like?
Stinky: Oh, he's great. Kind, wise, has a great big house - it smells amazing!
Leader: OK. Has he ever broken a promise to you?
Stinky: No.
Leader: So... does it make sense to trust him?
Stinky: Yeah... I guess so.
Leader: Well, you'll know you trust him if you go to the party.
Stinky: Oh, so maybe I don't...
Leader: How do you think he would feel if you didn't come to the party because you didn't trust his invite?
Stinky: Uhh... Sad. Maybe offended.
Leader: Yeah.
Stinky: I'm not sure if I'm cool enough or smart enough or smelly enough for this party.
Leader: I think Pungent just wants you to trust him and come to the party. He doesn't need you to impress him.
Stinky: Oh, this feels hard! All this talk of promises and trusting...
Leader: Well, why don't you let me read a Bible passage the grown ups are learning. Let's see if that helps?
Stinky: Oh, OK!
Leader: Great. I'm going to read you from Genesis chapter 12. God makes some amazing promises to a man called Abraham.
[ SLIDE: The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s family. Go to the land I will show you. ] “I will make you into a great nation. And I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you. I will put a curse on anyone who puts a curse on you. All nations on earth will be blessed because of you.” So Abram went, just as the Lord had told him. (Genesis 12:1-4a)
Stinky: It sounds like Abraham was sneezing, because God kept saying 'bless you', 'bless you'!
Leader: Oh, no, God is promising Abraham that he will bless him.
Stinky: What is blessing?
Leader: Blessing is giving a good gift, a great favour. God promises to bless Abraham with a land of his own, a great people made up of his children, and a great name - he would be famous.
Stinky: That sound good...
Leader: And God would make Abraham a blessing for all nations on earth.
Stinky: Even us in Australia?
Leader: Yes, God was caring for his whole world.
Stinky: So what did Abraham do?
Leader: He trusted God's promise.
Stinky: How do you know Abraham trusted God?
Leader: Because when God said 'go', Abraham went!
Stinky: And how did God feel about that?
Leader: God was pleased with Abraham, because Abraham trusted God's promise and accepted God's gift.
Stinky: Oh... So did Abraham get the blessings?
Leader: Well, God kept his promise: He gave Abraham many children, gave them a land of their own, and blessed them.
Stinky: Oh, that's a happy ending.
Leader: Wait, there's more. God SUPER kept his promise.
Stinky: How?
Leader: One of Abraham's children is very special. Kids, who do you think that is?
[ Get answer, 'Jesus' ]
Leader: Yes! When we trust Jesus, we become Abraham's children of faith. We are blessed with God's promises to Abraham.
Stinky: Including the land?
Leader: Yes! Jesus is preparing a place for us where we can enjoy living with him forever.
Stinky: And the great people?
Leader: Jesus is gathering many, many people, from every nation around the world.
Stinky: And the blessing?
Leader: We will enjoy living under king Jesus. That's the greatest blessing!
Stinky: That sounds great! No wonder Abraham is famous!
Leader: Let's read our Bible Bite.
Slide: Bible Bite: God is pleased when we trust His promise of great blessing.
Leader: Stinky, can you say that?
Stinky: Stinky sneezed when he was stressing about the great party.
Leader: Oh, let's say it together and help Stinky.
[ Together: God is pleased when we trust His promise of great blessing. ]
Leader: So Stinky, are you going to go to this party?
Stinky: Yes! I'm going to trust Pungent's promise and come to the party. It'll be great!
Leader: Great! He'll be pleased you did.
Stinky: OK, I better get ready for the party... Bye!
