Passage | Romans 5:18-19 |
Passage Text | [on whole v12-21 section]: |
Everyone was going to be punished because Adam sinned. But because of the good thing that Christ has done, God accepts us and gives us the gift of life. Adam disobeyed God and caused many others to be sinners. But Jesus obeyed him and will make many people acceptable to God. (CEV)
One man\'s sin brought guilt to all people. So also one right act made all people right with God. And all who are right with God will live. 19 Many people were made sinners because one man did not obey. But one man did obey. That is why many people will be made right with God. (NIRV)

LEADER: Hello, my name is Pat and my friend Stinky the smelly puppet is coming to visit. So I'd like all the kids to come to the front... I'm going to knock on his bin, and when he says 'who is it?', I want all of us to shout 'Come out Stinky!'
[ Someone wheels me in, sets up mic; Pat knocks, 'Come out Stinky!', Stinky comes out ]
STINKY: Hello Ms Pat!
LEADER: Hello Stinky! I'm glad you're here - we're going to play a game called 'Contest of the Bible Captains'. [slide] There are two captains and you can choose whom to follow. We'll have questions to see where each captain leads. Ready?
STINKY: OK! I pick... captain 'A'.
LEADER: OK, this captain is... [slide] Adam!
STINKY: Yeah! Adam is great! He was the first person in the Bible, that means my team will come first! Yeah!
LEADER: You sure you're happy with your captain, Stinky? You don't want to change?
STINKY: No! I'm sticking with Adam!
LEADER: OK, that means your captain, kids, is [next slide]... Jesus!
LEADER: Let's do the questions... [next slide] Adam first -- What is Adam famous for? [read options]
STINKY: Ah... Disobeying God!
LEADER: [Next slide] That's right!\ How about Jesus. What is Jesus famous for? [read options, get response] Very good! Jesus obeyed God by dying on the cross in our place.\ Stinky, do you still want Adam to be your captain?
STINKY: Yes!
LEADER: OK, next question. [next slide] What was the result of Adam's disobedience?
STINKY: Oh... I think it was death to everyone...
LEADER: I'm afraid that's true! When Adam disobeyed God, he brought death on himself and all of us, because we all disobey God like him.\ OK, how about Jesus -- what is the result of his dying on the cross? [get response -- life for everyone] Yes, when Jesus died for us on the cross to pay the punishment we deserved, he brought life for everyone who trusts him!\ How about now Stinky, do you still want Adam as your captain?
STINKY: Yes! I'm sticking with Adam!
LEADER: OK... Next question [next slide] -- Why did Adam's disobedience result in death?
STINKY: Ah... because it was what he deserved?
LEADER: That's right! -- it's the right punishment for disobeying God.\ Why did Jesus' dying on the cross result in life for us? [response - A free gift] That's right! We don't deserve it, but it's a free gift. Here's the scoreboard... Hmm, Adam disobeyed God, and that brought death to everyone -- because we deserve it. Jesus died on the cross and brought life to everyone -- as a free gift!\ Hmmm, what do you think, Stinky?
STINKY: Oh... Miss Pat, I don't like my captain anymore... Could I please change captains now? Even now? Even though I don't deserve it?!
LEADER: What do you think, kids? [response -- OK...]
STINKY: Yeah!
LEADER: You know Stinky, the grown ups are learning about this from the Bible today.
STINKY: Really? What does the Bible say about Adam and Jesus?
LEADER: Let's have a look...
[slide -- passage:\ Everyone was going to be punished because Adam sinned. But because of the good thing that Christ has done, God accepts us and gives us the gift of life. Adam disobeyed God and caused many others to be sinners. But Jesus obeyed him and will make many people acceptable to God. (Romans 5:18-19)]
LEADER: See? The Bible says we're all in Adam's team.
STINKY: So we sin and deserve death -- just like Adam?!
LEADER: Yes! But becoming a Christian is like changing captains, from Adam to Jesus.
STINKY: So with Jesus as our captain, we can have the free gift of life with God?
LEADER: Yes!
STINKY: Wow, that's amazing! I'm glad we can change captains!
LEADER: You bet Stinky!
STINKY: OK, thank you for teaching me about God! I better go now -- see you later little monkeys!
